Abstract<br />Aim: The current research aimed to examine the mediating role of moral emotions in the association between basic psychological needs and social goal orientation with body dissatisfaction. Methods: This research employed a correlational design and utilized a structural equation model. The statistical population consisted of high school female students, with a sample of 250 selected using Cochran's formula through a multi-stage cluster random sampling method in Benab City. The research utilized measurement tools including the Body Dissatisfaction Questionnaire, Guilt and Shame Experience Scale, Achievement Goal Orientation Scale, and Self-Determination Scale. Direct and indirect paths of the research model were examined using the structural equation model and the Sobel test. Findings: The results indicated significant relationships between most research variables. The highest mean and standard deviation was associated with the body dissatisfaction variable, while the lowest mean and standard deviation were linked to the avoidant social goal variable. The subscale of shame and guilt was identified as a significant mediator in the relationship between basic psychological needs and social goal orientation with body dissatisfaction. All path coefficients were significant,. Conclusion: The findings of this study hold potential for counselors and clinical experts in addressing body image issues among adolescent girls.
