Abstract

The objective of this study was to examine the efficacy of a positive online parenting program on the social-emotional skills and emotion recognition of children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. The research method was quasi-experimental, utilizing a pre- and post-test design and a control group. The statistical population consisted of all parents of children aged 7 to 12 who were referred to rehabilitation and psychological centers in Tehran and were diagnosed with attention-hyperactivity disorder, as determined by specialists. The available sampling method was employed to identify 30 children. The Social-Emotional Assets and Resilience Scales (SEARS) and the Facial Emotion Recognition Task (FERT) were employed to assess social-emotional skills and emotion recognition. The data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) and SPSS version 15. The results indicated that a positive parenting program had a significant effect on improving empathy and self-regulation skills as well as emotional recognition (P<0.05). However, it did not have a significant influence on social responsibility and empowerment (P>0.05). Accordingly, it can be concluded that the implementation of positive parenting online should be taken into account by specialists and treatment centers for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Additionally, families who are unable to visit the centers in person can benefit from this intervention.
