Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the Emotional Literacy Skill Scale. The research method employed was a practical correlation. The statistical society consisted of all high school adolescents in Isfahan; consequently, 483 students were selected using the multi-stage cluster sampling method, with 38% of them being male and 62% being female. The instruments were the Emotional Literacy Skills Scale (ELSS) and the Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale (SEIS). Data were analyzed using SPSS and Amos software, and the emotional literacy scale and its components were verified. Research results indicated a significant positive correlation between the components of emotional literacy and emotional intelligence, with a significance level of less than 0.01. Additionally, the ultimate model of the second-order factor analysis was verified. Confirmatory factor analysis and convergent construct validity were implemented to evaluate the scale’s validity. Cronbach's alpha coefficients were employed to determine the scale's reliability, and the combined reliability of all dimensions and the entire questionnaire exceeded 0.7. The 2χ∆ values, which were calculated for the chi-square test of the model with restrictions and the model without restrictions, demonstrated that the factor loadings of factors and items differed between the two genders. This was done to verify the gender invariance. The results suggest that this scale is a reliable and valid method for assessing the emotional literacy skills of adolescents. Therefore, the precise assessment of emotional literacy skills in adolescents can serve as an effective foundation for the development of training programs for this demographic.
