The objective of this study was to examine the impact of sexual distress on the quality of marriage and the intimacy of marriage among married women. This investigation was applied and descriptive and correlational. The statistical population of the study consisted of all married women in Isfahan city in 2023, of whom 212 were selected through voluntary sampling. The data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation and linear regression in SPSS27. The Marital Intimacy Needs Questionnaire (MINQ), Perceived Relationship Quality Components Inventory (PRQC), and Female Sexual Distress Scale-Revised (FSDS-R) were used to collect the data. The correlation coefficients demonstrated that women’s sexual distress had a substantial negative correlation with marital quality and all of its dimensions, including satisfaction, commitment, intimacy, trust, passion, and love (p < 0.01). In addition, there was a substantial negative correlation between marital intimacy and sexual distress, as well as its eight dimensions (p < 0.01). The regression analysis results indicated that sexual distress predicted 25% of marital quality and 15% of marital intimacy in married women. It is possible that sexual distress, a variable that is perceived differently from sexual disorders, could reduce women’s marital quality and intimacy. The present study's results suggest that couple and family therapists can enhance the quality and intimacy of marital relationships by recognizing the role of sexual distress and addressing this aspect, which appears to be one of the hidden variables that influence the marital relationship.
