Objective:The present study aimed to investigate the mediating role of alexithymia in the relationship between anger rumination and unforgiveness with depression in students. Method: The research method was descriptive-correlational using path analysis. The statistical population consisted of female psychology students enrolled at Payame Noor University in Tehran, in the academic year 2022-23. A total of 350 participants were selected through purposive sampling according to Kline's formula (2011) for structural equation modeling studies. The measurement tools included the Anger Rumination Scale (ARS, Sukhodolsky et al., 2001), the Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20 (TAS-20, Bagby et al., 1997), the Heartland Forgiveness Scale (HFS, Thompson et al., 2005), and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI, Beck et al., 1996). Data analysis was performed using SPSS and AMOS software. Results: The findings showed that alexithymia (β=0.23, P<0.01), anger rumination (β=0.31, P<0.01), and forgiveness (β=-0.26, P<0.01) had a direct effect on depression. Anger rumination also had a direct effect on alexithymia (β=0.24, P<0.01), and forgiveness had a direct effect on alexithymia (β=-0.20, P<0.01). The indirect effect of anger rumination (β=0.05, P<0.01) and forgiveness (β=0.04, P<0.01) on depression was significant. Conclusion: The results demonstrated the mediating role of alexithymia in the relationship between anger rumination and unforgiveness with depression.
