Abstract

The aim of the present study was to compare the effectiveness of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) on state-trait anxiety and resilience in students with self-harming behaviors. The research method was experimental with pre-test and post-test with a control group. The statistical population included all female high school students with self-harming behaviors in the academic year 2023-2024. From this population, 45 students were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned 15 students to both the experimental groups of CBT and ISTDP and 15 students to the control group. Data were collected using the Inventory of Statements about Self-Injury (ISAS), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and Resilience Scale (CD-RIS). The first experimental group underwent CBT (8 sessions 90 minutes) and the second experimental group underwent ISTDP (12 sessions 90 minutes) but the subjects in the control group did not receive any intervention. Data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance in SPSS.26 software. The results showed that the effects of both CBT and ISTDP on state-trait anxiety and resilience were significant (P≤0.01). Also,the results of the follow-up test showed that the effect of ISTDP was greater than that of CBT in the post-test and follow-up groups (P≤0.01).
