Abstract

The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship between internet parenting styles and academic procrastination, considering the mediating role of internet addiction. This research is practical in terms of purpose and in terms of collecting descriptive-correlational information. The statistical population of the research was the secondary school students of Neyriz city in the academic year of 2020-2021, where 300 students (151 girls and 149 boys) were selected by cluster sampling method. The measurement tools included internet addiction test (IAT), Procrastination assessment scale– student (PASS) and Internet Parenting Style Instrument (IPS). The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling with SPSS (version 26) and AMOS (version 24) software. The findings of the research showed that Internet addiction has a significant and acceptable mediating role in the relationship between Internet parenting styles and academic procrastination. Also, the current research model explained 0.44% of the variance of academic procrastination. The research results showed that considering the mediating role of internet addiction, "parental permission" internet parenting style has a positive and significant relationship with academic procrastination, and "parental encouragement" style has a negative and significant relationship with academic procrastination which points out the need to pay attention to internet parenting styles.
