The effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy on coping styles (problem- oriented and emotional- oriented) of people with drug abuse (opium)

Abstract

Substance abuse is one of the most common and costly health problems in the world today. The purpose of this study was to effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy on coping styles (problem- oriented and emotional- oriented) of people with drug abuse (opium). This semi-experimental study was conducted with a pretest-posttest design with control group and follow-up 2 month. In this research, the statistical population was all people with drug abuse (opium) referring to government addiction treatment centers in district 5 of Tehran city in year 2020. In the first stage, using convenience sampling method, 30 people were selected and then randomly divided into one experimental group (15 people) and one control group (15 people) were replaced and experimental group underwent cognitive-behavioral therapy (12 sessions 90 minutes), but the control group received no therapy and remained in the waiting list. For collect data ways of coping questionnaire (WCQ). Data analysis was performed using SPSS-29 software in two sections: descriptive and inferential (analysis of variance with repeated measures and Bonferroni). The results of the study showed that of cognitive-behavioral therapy in post-test and follow up had a significant effect on coping styles (problem- oriented and emotional- oriented) of people with drug abuse (opium)
