Abstract

The present study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of rational- emotive behavioral therapy on marital forgiveness and desire for divorce in couples on the verge of divorce. The present research method was semi-experimental with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group and a two-month follow-up period. The statistical population of the present study included the couples on the verge of divorce who referred to consultation centers in zone One of Tehran in the Fall of 2023. 17 couples (34 people) were selected through purposive sampling method and randomly accommodated into experimental and control groups (9 couples in the experimental group and 8 in the control group). The experimental group received rational- emotive behavioral therapy (14 sessions) during fourteen weeks. The applied questionnaires in this study included Marital Conflict Questionnaire (MCQ), Family Forgiveness Scale (FFS) and Desire for Divorce Scale (DDS). The data taken from the study were analyzed through mixed ANOVA and Bonferroni follow-up test via SPSS23 software. The results showed that rational- emotive behavioral therapy is effective on the marital forgiveness (F=44.99; Eta=0.58; P<0.001) and desire for divorce (F=24.63; Eta=0.43; p<0.001) of the Couples on the Verge of Divorce.
