The Effect of Mindfulness Training on Forgiveness and Empathy Towards Others in Bully Students

Abstract

The aim of this research was to study the effects of mindfulness training on forgiveness and empathy towards others in bully students.The research design was a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest with a control group and a three-month follow-up period. The study population included all male and female students with bullying behavior in the second secondary level of Bostan Abad city, in the academic year of 2022-2023, and 30 students selected by available sampling method and were replaced randomly and by gender in two groups of 15 people, experimental and control. The experimental group received the mindfulness intervention for 8 sessions of 45 minutes; While the control group was not given any training. After the end of the sessions, as well as after six months in the follow-up phase, both groups were re-evaluated with research tools. Bullying Questionnaire(BVS), Emotional Empathy Scale and Forgiveness Evaluation Scale were used to collect data. analysis of variance with repeated measurements showed that mindfulness training had a significant effect on empathy with others and forgiveness; This effect continued in the follow-up phase. mindfulness training is a suitable option for improving the behavioral problems of bullying and increasing forgiveness and empathy towards others. .
