Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of art therapy-based education on auditory processing speed, visual processing speed and working memory and general cognition of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). This study was a quasi-experimental clinical trial with pretest and posttest with the control group. For analysis of data, were used Wilcoxon statistical tests and univariate analysis of covariance. The study population was all patients (319 people) referred to the special diseases clinicthe Ali Ibn Abitaleb Hospital in Rafsanjannjan. In the screening stage, 40 patients randomly considered as a sample and they divided into experimental and control groups. Experimental group classes held in 14 sessions of 45 minutes on Mondays and Wednesdays and control group classes are held in 14 sessions (45 minutes) with different content on Sundays and Mondays. The results showed that art therapy-based training increases the speed of auditory processing, the speed of visual processing and working memory, and general cognition. Art therapy-based training sessions explain 21% of the variance in general cognition. It is concluded that art therapy-based education is effective in increasing the speed of auditory processing, visual processing speed, and working memory and improving the general cognitive of MS patients.
