The Comparison of Effectiveness of Emotional Schema Therapy and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy on Cognitive Emotion Regulation, Intolerance of Uncertainty and Psychological Flexibility among Patients Suffering from Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Abstract

Objective: The objective was to compare the effectiveness of emotional schema therapy and cognitive therapy based on mindfulness on cognitive regulation of emotion, uncertainty intolerance and psychological flexibility.
Research method: The design of the research was analytical and quasi-experimental and of the type of clinical trial, randomized, one-way blind, placebo controlled. The statistical population of patients with generalized anxiety disorder in 2021 in Urmia. A sample of 45 people were selected by the available and targeted method. Data were collected with questionnaires, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Pennsylvania State Worry (PSWQ), Intolerance of Ambiguity, Cognitive Flexibility and Emotional-Cognitive Regulation and two cognitive therapy methods based on mindfulness and emotional schema therapy, collected and with software (SPSS V. 28) and multivariate analysis of covariance test were analyzed.
Findings: The results showed that emotional schema therapy and cognitive therapy based on mindfulness were effective on the cognitive regulation of emotion, intolerance of uncertainty (ambiguity) and psychological flexibility in patients with generalized anxiety disorder, and the effectiveness of emotional schema therapy was higher and greater. Was.
Conclusion: It is possible to use these two intervention methods, especially emotional schema therapy, in order to control emotions and anxiety in patients suffering from pervasive anxiety.
