Effectiveness of Parenting Training Based on Positivist Approach on Parenting Stress and Action Flexibility of Mothers of Children with Externalized Behavioral-Emotional Disorder

Abstract

The present study was conducted to effectiveness of parenting training based on positivist approach on parenting stress and action flexibility of mothers of children with externalized behavioral-emotional disorder. The current study was a semi-experimental application with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group and a two-month follow-up period. The statistical population was made up of mothers of children with externalized behavioral-emotional disorder who referred to the education counseling center of Isfahan city in the academic year of 2022-23. In order to carry out the present study, 35 mother were selected by the purposeful sampling method and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (18 mother in the experimental group and 17 mother in the control group). The mothers in the experimental group received ten sessions of positivist approach on parenting stress during ten weeks. The applied questionnaires in this study included Children and Adolescents Behavioral Inventory (Achenbach, Rescorla, 2001), Parenting Stress Questionnaire and Action Flexibility Questionnaire. The data from the study were analyzed through mixed ANOVA method via SPSS23 statistical software. The results showed that positivist approach on parenting stress has had effect on the on parenting stress and action flexibility of mothers of children with externalized behavioral-emotional disorder.
