Comparing the Effectiveness of Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Schema Therapy on Self-Concept and Psychological Resilience of Adolescents with Symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder

Abstract

The present study was conducted to investigate comparing the effectiveness of dialectical behavior therapy and schema therapy on self-concept and psychological resilience of adolescents with symptoms of borderline personality disorder. The current study was a experimental application with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group and a two-month follow-up period. The statistical population of the study included adolescents with symptoms of borderline personality disorder who were studying in the second year of high school in Isfahan in the academic year 2024-2025 and were referred to counseling centers and psychological services of education due to symptoms of borderline personality disorder. In this research, 53 adolescent with symptoms of borderline personality disorder were selected by purposeful sampling and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (18 adolescents in the first experimental group, 18 adolescents in the second experimental group, and 17 adolescents in the control group). The adolescents in the experimental groups received the dialectical behavior therapy and schema therapy during ten weeks. The data were analyzed through mixed ANOVA via SPSS23 software. The results showed that dialectical behavior therapy and schema therapy have significant effect on the self-concept (p<0.0001) and psychological resilience (p<0.0001) in adolescents with symptoms of borderline personality disorder.
