Abstract

The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effectiveness of compassion-based intervention on parental burnout and the parent-child relationship of mothers of children with separation anxiety disorder in Qaimshahr city, 2021-2022. In this research, a quasi-experimental method was used with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population consisted of mothers of children with separation anxiety disorder. The sample consisted of 30 mothers who were selected by available sampling method and were randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups. Compassion training was conducted during 8 sessions of 90 minutes, one session per week for the experimental group, but the control group did not receive the intervention. Both groups were evaluated with Roskam's (2018) parental burnout scales and Pianta's (2011) parent-child relationship scales. Single and multivariate analysis of covariance was used to analyze the data. The findings showed that following the intervention, the parental burnout scores decreased and the parent-child relationship improved (p<0.001). Therefore, considering the positive results that compassion has in reducing mothers' burnout and improving the parent-child relationship through increasing mental health and self-awareness, it can be used as one of the effective interventions in this field.
