The comparison of effectiveness of spiritual therapy and meta-cognitive therapy on anxiety in girl university students

Abstract

Spiritual therapy and meta-cognitive therapy are known as two important methods in treatment of mental disorder especially anxiety disorders. The present paper reports comparison of effectiveness spiritual therapy and meta-cognitive therapy on anxiety in femal university students referred to jihad counselingcenter University of Isfahan.In a quasi-experimental study 45 students suffering from high levels of anxiety were randomly assigned to three groups of 15 persons each: spiritual therapy, meta-cognitive therapy and control group. The therapy groups separately received 8 session of spiritual therapy and meta-cognitive therapy and control group don’t received any treatment. All of groups completed the Cattell Anxiety Questionnaires (CAQ) as the pre-test, post-test and two month follow-up. Data were analyzed by covariance method. Results showed that unlike meta-cognitive therapy, in post-test state, spiritual therapy lead to decrease rate of anxiety. But in the follow-up state neither spiritual therapy nor meta-cognitive therapy display any significant difference in reducing the rate of anxiety. Although effect of spiritual therapy manifests earlier  than meta-cognitive therapy, but in long trun these two treatments are not significantly different. Therefore the use of Spiritual therapy and meta-cognitive therapy are effective in reduction of anxiety.
