The aim of this study was to investigate the prediction of medical adherence based on attachment styles by considering the mediating role of emotional regulation in patients with peptic ulcer.
The current research was fundamental in terms of purpose and its method was correlational by structural equation modeling type. The statistical population of the present study included all patients with gastric ulcer who referred to the specialized offices of internal medicine specialists in Mashhad in the last six months of 2021. The sample size was 150 cases who selected by the available method. Patients completed revised version of adult attachment scale (RAAS), Morisky medical adherence scale (MMAS) and difficulties in emotional regulation scale (DERS). Structural equation modeling used to analyze the data. Data analysis performed using SPSS-20 and Smart-PLS3.
The results showed that attachment styles have a significant indirect effect on medical adherence. Emotional regulation had a significant mediating role in this regard (p <0.05).
Medical adherence increased with the increase of secure attachment styles and people with higher emotional regulation reported more medical adherence. Insecure attachment styles had a significant negative effect on medical adherence; while the effect of secure attachment styles on medical adherence was direct and significant.
