[English]

The objective of this investigation was to ascertain the career obstacles that therapists encounter in telephone counseling. The current research methodology is applied and qualitative, with a focus on phenomenology. The population of this research consisted of active therapists in Tehran during the years 2024-2025. The sampling process was deliberate and persisted until saturation data was obtained. Ultimately, 15 therapists were selected. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with participants. Coding was implemented employing the Colaizzi seven-step methodology and MAXQDA.20 software to analyze the data. The identification of 68 primary concepts, 14 sub-themes, and 5 main themes was the result of data analysis. Five primary themes were identified: communication challenges (lack of access to nonverbal cues, ambiguity in verbal expression, environmental factors, and difficulty in trust), technical challenges (difficulty in connecting and accessing technology), psychological challenges (emotional and behavioral), developmental challenges (lack of culture-building initiatives, insufficient infrastructure, and neglect of human resources), and organizational-structural challenges (poor human resources management, weak policies, and difficulty in measuring the effectiveness of telephone counseling). The results of this study have the potential to provide a significant explanation for the obstacles associated with this occupation and the pathways that require review or even redefining in this field. In this regard, it appears that it is crucial to consider individual issues and peripheral issues, such as society and organization, due to the unique position that this role and its human resources occupy.
