Aim: The aim of present study was to determine the relationship between Rumination and Worry as mediators between Self-compassion, Depression and Anxiety among students of University of Tehran.
Methods: This research is a correlational descriptive research. The statistical society was all students at university of Tehran at 2019-2020. 300 students were selected by convenience sampling method from University of Tehran. The participants completed Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Pennsylvania State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ), Nolen-Hoeksema Rumination Responses Questionnaire (RRS) and Neff Self-Compassion Questionnaire (SCS). The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical indicators which include frequency, mean, percentage, standard deviation, correlation coefficient and path analysis. Also, should be mentioned that data modeling was performed by AMOS software.
Results: The results indicated that Self-compassion was negatively related to Depression, Rumination, State-Trait Anxiety and Worry (p<0.005). additionally, the AMOS analysis showed the mediation role of worry and rumination in the relationship between self-compassion and depression and anxiety.
Conclusion: In sum, the findings suggest that the relationship between Self-compassion and Anxiety and Depression is not a simple linear. Self-compassion reduces the State-Trait anxiety and depression by reducing rumination and worry.
